Of the 970 questionnaires received 51 did not allow meaningful interpretation of this question for so we were working with a sample of 919.
Of the 921, 801 fell into what might be defined as more common household composition. These were allocated reference numbers for greater analysis later. Details are

Households with over 60's
Of the 919 questionnaires received with interpretable data for this question 285 (31%) had one or more occupants over the age of 60.
![]() |
263 of these came into the 'normal' category. Of the remainder, 22, there was almost every possible combination from 4 over-60's living in one house to 1 over-60 living with 4 in the 19-60 age group, or 2 over-60's living with 2 age 19 to 60, 1 age 11-18 and 1 age 0-10. There seems little sense in delving deeper into all the possible combinations found in these 22.

Households with young people
Of the 919 households whose response could be interpreted 244 (26.5%) had children in the age range 0-10.

The breakdown of numbers is
| number of 0-10 year olds in household | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| number of households | 675 | 117 | 101 | 16 | 10 |
The number of households with 11-18 year olds is 174 (18.9%)
The breakdown by numbers of 11-18 year olds looks like this
| number of 11-18 year olds in household | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| number of households | 745 | 107 | 60 | 6 | 1 |
Of the 919 questionnaires that could be analysed the age profile looked like this
| Age range | 0 - 10 | 11 - 18 | 19 - 60 | Over 60 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Number | 407 | 249 | 1391 | 439 |
i.e. the age profile for all 919 households
The composition of households is variable, the raw data for the 'normal' households looks like this.
| Reference number | Composition of household | Number in category | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 18 | 19 to 60 | over 60 | ||
| 10a | 0 | 1 | 1 | 6 |

Combining the numbers in the two tables
| Reference number | Composition of household | Number in category | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 18 | 19 to 60 | over 60 | ||
| 9 | 342 | 141 | 538 | 269 |
| 10 | 22 | 32 | 34 | 34 |
| Totals | 364 | 173 | 572 | 303 |
This means that 43 0-10 year-olds and 76 11-18 year-olds are not in the categories shown in the above table. As with the over 60's, the combinations of ages within these less usual households shows wide variety.
One also has to consider that there will be households which show, for example, one 11-18 and three adults where one of the adults may be a 19 year-old offspring still living at home. Our questionnaire did not seek to separate such combinations of parents and offspring.
Some of the less usual household profiles (for the village because there are not many large families) that contain one or more young people are
| Reference number | Composition of household | Number in category | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 18 | 19 to 60 | over 60 | ||
| 3 | 1 | 2 | 2 | |
| 4 | 1 | 2 | 1 | |
| 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 | |
| 3 | 2 | 2 | 1 | |
| 4 | 0 | 3 | 1 | |
| 0 | 1 | 4 | 4 | |
| 1 | 0 | 5 | 1 | |
| 2 | 0 | 5 | 1 | |
| 0 | 1 | 5 | 1 | |
| Total young people | 22 | 11 | Total households | 13 |
So far households with young people and over-60s in have not been included.
There are 10 households with young people and 1 over-60s in each and 5 households with young people and 2 over-60s in each.
The total number of each age range in each is
| Age range | 0 - 10 | 11 - 18 | 19 - 60 | Over 60 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Households with 1 over-60 (10 in total) | 8 | 6 | 12 | 10 |
| Households with 2 over-60s (5 in total) | 3 | 6 | 10 | 10 |
| Totals | 11 | 12 | 22 | 20 |
This still leaves 22 0-10 and 43 11-18 not accounted for. Some of these are in the less usual family groupings not listed and there are a small number of households where the 11-18 age group is the oldest - some are young people living alone and some young couples/groups without children and some with children.
